Sometimes we feel we are on an island with no one who understands the problems and situation we face.
Raising other people kids is hard, rewarding, frustrating and sometimes downright funny.

"Issues"

When G14 was 13 years old she told her therapist "I don't know why I need to come here, I don't have any issues!"

Kids who have been born to an alcoholic mother, neglected and abused both emotionally and physically, traumatized and then abandoned ~ what "issues" could they possibly have?!

Here are some of the "issues" we see for which symptoms seem to fit:

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Attachment Disorder (sometimes called Reactive Attachment Disorder or RAD)
Verbal/Emotional Abuse
Physical Abuse
Trauma brought on by unstable Mom
Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome
Abandonment by all blood relatives ~ (not just Mom)
Trauma of new home, new family and new way of life

As time goes by I will try to elaborate on each of these topics in order to help understand all the "issues" that these kids face.  Most if not all of the above are never overcome ~ the kids have to learn to live with and cope with the results for the rest of their lives.
